A Funny Business

When I started writing, I did so because I enjoy storytelling, and a few individuals said I was pretty good at it. The first book, Swan Scream, did well beyond my expectations, both in the communities surrounding our lake home and on Amazon. Those were heady days for this neophyte author.
Fortunately for me, Scout Scream also did well. Two main factors led to that success. One, the Grand Rapids Herald-Review of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, published a feature article about me and my writings in December 2023, just far enough ahead of Christmas to drive sales in the local area.
Now, my third book, Swan Dive, is working its way into the market. As of this writing, sales have been a bit below my expectations, but I anticipate those to improve considerably with the three upcoming book signings in Grand Rapids, Hibbing, and Duluth. Also, I anticipate a boost just prior to Christmas.
I write as a hobby. I don’t expect to get rich, and perhaps I won't break even with sales covering all of my expenses. And that is O.K.
You may ask yourself, if he doesn’t expect to make money, why does he focus on sales figures? The answer, very simply, is ego. Other than an occasional email or comment from my limited number of fans, sales are the only way I have to know if my books are being enjoyed.
So, please feel free to recommend my books to friends and family. I might break even, and if nothing else, I will get a nice warm fuzzy feeling.
